Case Study

Enterprise Collaboration and Digital Experience Modernization

The New Mexico Department of Health needed a secure, scalable collaboration and digital experience platform to support internal staff, external partners, and contractors across the agency. Serving more than 2 million residents through a broad network of clinical, administrative, and field divisions, NMDOH required a modern foundation that could improve collaboration, strengthen security, and support multiple user communities.

Asponte supported NMDOH by deploying and modernizing its enterprise collaboration and digital experience environments using HCL Connections 8.0 and HCL Digital Experience 9.5 on Microsoft Azure. The solution provided the agency with a cloud-based platform for communities, file sharing, blogs, wikis, forums, activity streams, and secure digital experience delivery.

A major focus of the project was secure identity and access management. Asponte configured Microsoft Entra ID integration using OIDC single sign-on, supported internal Active Directory users and external partner accounts, and implemented secure directory synchronization and profile management using IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator. The solution also included PKI-secured TLS certificates, encrypted LDAPS integration, and Azure-based governance controls.

Asponte’s work included deployment of HCL Connections on IBM WebSphere Application Server, deployment of HCL Digital Experience across Azure Kubernetes Service environments, configuration of Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Container Registry, and development of automation scripts, configuration files, deployment artifacts, and technical documentation.

Throughout the engagement, Asponte worked closely with NMDOH through near-daily working sessions to support setup, configuration, knowledge transfer, and operational readiness. At completion, NMDOH had documented, maintainable environments supporting development, testing, authoring, rendering, and production operations.

The project provided NMDOH with a unified collaboration platform, seamless authentication through Microsoft Entra ID/OIDC, secure directory integration, repeatable deployment processes, and a stronger foundation for future digital experience modernization.
